The PreComp script simplifies the process of grouping layers into separate compositions while also cropping their boundaries to match the size of the layer. This script takes into account various layer properties such as scale, size, stroke width, and even blurring at the layer boundary.

To use the script, select the layers you want to group and run the script. By default, the script will crop the layer boundaries. However, holding down the Alt (Option) key while running the script will create a precomp without cropping.

It can also handle more complex situations. For example, if a layer is animated and has 3D mode enabled, the script will create a new composition and transfer the layer to it while also transferring the keyframes to the composition layer. This helps to keep the content clean and eliminates the need to transfer anything manually.

In situations where a layer is linked to another, a built-in precomp can disrupt the parent chain. The PreComp script will re-parent the layer to the original after the precomposition, preserving the link chain.

Note: The Precompose script is a useful tool for organizing your project, but it is important to use it judiciously. Excessive precomposing can make it difficult to make changes to your project later on.
